Assistant Professor of Mathematics Chinthaka Kuruwita co-authored an article titled “Generalized varying coefficient models with unknown link function” in the September issue of the journal Biometrika.

Written with Colin Gallagher and Karunarathna Kulasekera of Clemson University, the article introduces a new estimation method for generalized varying coefficient models where the link function is specified up to some smoothness conditions. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimated varying coefficient functions are established and the authors use simulation results and a real data application to demonstrate the usefulness of the new method.

Biometrika is a journal of statistics produced by Oxford University Press. Its emphasis is on papers with original theoretical content with direct or potential value in applications.
