A panel discussion titled "Governing the Adirondacks" will take place Tuesday, April 13, in Kirner-Johnson Red Pit, at 7 p.m. The discussion is part of The Levitt Center speaker series "The Environment: Public Policy and Social Responsibility."

Panelists include Ross Whaley, Chair of the Adirondack Park Agency; Virginia Brandreth, Adirondack Landowners' Association; Peter Litchfield, Blue Line Council; J. R. Risley, Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages; and John Sheehan, Adirondack Council.

The discussion will focus on the following questions: What major problems do you see facing the Adirondacks over the next twenty years? Does the public/private character of the Park enable the Adirondacks to meet these challenges, or is the public/private combination a liability? Are current restrictions on land use adequate?  Should the state or private land trusts acquire more private land or subsidize conservation? Are the governing arrangements of the Park adequate to meet future challenges?
