CAB, one of the largest student-run organizations on campus, brings in such artists as Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Barenaked Ladies and Ben Harper. In addition to managing the CAB concert budget, Chris works with agents on concert dates, logistics, ticket sales and contracts.
An economics major, Chris applies what he learns in the classroom to his CAB position. "Many times economics is about projecting potential outcomes, and that's what we're doing with CAB," Chris explained. "The biggest challenge is political — coordinating ideas from members of the executive board and the campus with ideas that fit into our budget, and coming up with a concert that the campus will love and that is at the same time feasible."
When he's playing the drums Chris enjoys the performing side of the entertainment business, too. "I'd been drumming since I was a kid," he said, "and when I got here there were a lot of opportunities to play." Besides playing in a rock band on campus, he teaches drums and is an accompanist for Untitled at Large, a student-run theatre group.
After Hamilton, Chris is considering law school or a master's degree in business. "But I also dream of playing drums in a band. It really gets you — you want to pursue music and you don't want to stop playing. Every musician would love to play professionally. That's why CAB concert coordinator is a great job. It lets me get close to professionals who make their living this way."
