Lisa Fontes '09, with co-author Visiting Instructor of Anthropology Nathan Goodale and others, presented a paper titled "Migration and Cultural Transmission: A Study of Side-Notched Projectile Points, Athapaskan Tradition, and Evolutionary Patterns" at the Society for American Archaeology meetings in Atlanta on April 23.

The paper, which was part of a symposium organized by Goodale, investigates cultural transmission of form with respect to projectile points related to the Athapaskan migration into the interior of the Americas. The Society for American Archaeology meetings are the most important for American archaeologists and an undergraduate presentation is rare.

Fontes is senior concentrator in archaeology who has been working with Goodale on her senior thesis, the core of the presentation. She will begin her graduate school work in the Ph.D. program at the University of New Mexico in the fall.
