Tom McInerney '14 came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points and grab nine rebounds as Hamilton College rolled to an 88-46 win against Elmira College in a non-league game at Elmira's Speidel Gymnasium on Dec. 11.

Hamilton (5-2 overall) shot 57 percent from the field, including 6 of 15 from 3-point range. Elmira (1-10) lost its ninth straight game.

McInerney, who was 9 of 11 from the floor, did all his damage in just 22 minutes. Ephraim McDowell '12 led all players with 22 points. McDowell made five 3-pointers and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Pat Sullivan '12 chipped in 14 points, and Greg Newton '14 handed out four assists and made two steals. Marlon Bascombe '14 finished with nine points in 11 minutes off the bench.

Josh Keys paced the Soaring Eagles with 14 points and Zak Kumor grabbed five boards. Elmira shot just 37 percent from the field, and went 12-for-24 at the line.

The Continentals held a 38-19 advantage in rebounds, shot 84 percent (16-19) at the line and committed just eight turnovers. Hamilton shot a blistering 61.5 percent from the floor in the second half, when the Continentals outscored the Soaring Eagles 42-19.

Hamilton scored the first five points on a jumper by Ken Click '13 and a three by McDowell, and never trailed. The Continentals' lead was 20-4 just five minutes into the first half, and they maintained their double-digit cushion the rest of the way. The advantage grew to 21 at 33-12 with 7:30 left in the half. Hamilton led 46-27 at the break.

As the first half ended, a technical foul was called on an Elmira player, so the Continentals shot two free throws before the second half started. McDowell drained them both for a 48-27 lead, and the rout was on. The advantage reached 30 points at 67-37 with eight minutes remaining. Hamilton led by 40 points at 84-44 with 2:55 left.

The Continentals are off until Monday, Jan. 3, when they play West Coast Baptist College at Whittier College's Purple & Gold Poet Classic in Whittier, Calif.
