Union College defeated Hamilton College in the varsity eight on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on April 7 and claimed the Gilman Cup for the second straight year.

All races were 2,000 meters in length. Conditions were sunny with temperatures in the 40s and a 15-to-20 mph tailwind. The water was moderately choppy.

Union's varsity eight finished with a time of 6:13.42 and Hamilton's time was 6:26.25. Jaime Leiva-Cabrera '14 was coxswain, Matt Poterba '12 was the stroke and Max Geiduschek '14 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows: Dylan Jackson '13, Rafael De La Rosa '12, Chris Visentin '12, Aaron Whiteman '13, Adam Minchew '12 and Grant Meglis '14.

Union captured first place in the second varsity eight with a time of 6:31.66 and Hamilton was second in 6:46.52. Monica Gutierrez '15 was the coxswain, Joe Ely '12 was the stroke and Gardner Reed '14 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows: Andre Matias '12, Jacob Wagner '15, Alex Cates '15, Patrick English '15, Simon Judd '13 and Jack Wildman '15.

Union made it a clean sweep with a victory in the novice eight and a time of 6:31.94. Hamilton's time was 6:41.25. Monica Gutierrez '15 was the coxswain, Patrick English '15 was the stroke and Nicholas Bullen '15 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows: Gardner Reed '14, Jacob Wagner '15, Alex Cates '15, Philip Ewing '15, Kyle Leahy '14 and Andrew Szatkowski '15.

Hamilton hosts Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, April 14.
