Hamilton College finished first in the varsity eights and novice eights races against Stetson University on Lake Beresford in DeLand, Fla., on March 23.

All races were 2,000 meters in length. Temperatures were in the 70s with a light tailwind after a brief shower.

Hamilton’s “A” entry topped the “B” entry in the varsity eight with a time of 6 minutes, 59 seconds. Hamilton's “B” entry recorded a time of 7:17. The “A” entry consisted of coxswain Sawyer Konys '16, Jared Lippman '16 at the stroke seat and Andrew Szatkowski '15 in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows:  Charlie Wilson '16, Aaron Whiteman '13, Landon Morin '16, Eric Niemenen '16, Dylan Jackson '13 and Grant Meglis '14.

Monica Gutierrez '15 was the coxswain for the “B” entry, while Jake Wagner '15 was stroke and Simon Judd '13 was in the bow seat. The rest of the boat included (seats seven through two in descending order):  Kyle Leahy '14, Max Geiduschek '14, Alex Cates '15, Patrick English '15, Gardner Reed '14 and Philip Ewing '15.

Hamilton defeated Stetson in the novice eight with a time of 7:10. The boat consisted of coxswain Jack Cavanaugh '16, Lippman at the stroke seat and Ronald Sprague '16 in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order included:  Wilson, Marc Horschmen '16, Russ DeGrazia '15, Alec Melone '16, Tianshu Liu '16 and Max Luthringer '16.

Hamilton travels to Union College to row for the Gilman Plate & Cup on Saturday, April 6.
