Hamilton College finished sixth in the varsity eight grand final at the 2012 New York State Collegiate Championships held on Lake Whitney in Whitney Point, N.Y., on May 5 and 6.

Saturday's weather was cloudy with temperatures in the 40s and 50s and a 10 mph quartering tailwind. Sunday was sunny with temperatures in the 40s and 50s and a slight quartering tailwind. All races were 2,000 meters in length.

Hamilton finished in 5th place in the overall standings with 73 points. Ithaca College took first place in Sunday's varsity eight grand final in 5 minutes, 59.40 seconds. Hamilton crossed the line in 6:21.99. Jaime Leiva-Cabrera '14 was coxswain, Joe Ely '12 was the stroke and Andre Matias '12 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows: Chris Visentin '12, Rafael De La Rosa '12, Adam Minchew '12, Aaron Whiteman '13, Dylan Jackson '13 and Jack Wildman '15.

Hamilton was runner-up in the second varsity eight final on Saturday. Hobart College captured first place in 6:21.20, the Continentals crossed the line in 6:34.72 and Ithaca was third in 6:38.42. Monica Gutierrez '15 was the coxswain, Patrick English '15 was the stroke and Simon Judd '13 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows: Gardner Reed '14, Jacob Wagner '15, Alex Cates '15, Grant Meglis '14, Max Geiduschek '14 and Matt Poterba '12.

Hamilton competes in the 2012 ECAC championships in Worcester, Mass., on Friday, May 11.
