Hamilton College finished in a tie for fifth place in the overall team standings at the New York State championships, which were held on Whitney Point Lake on May 2 and 3.

Hamilton won the trophy for most improved team in points standings with 65 points, which was good for a tie with St. Lawrence University in the 27-team field. Ithaca College finished first with 140 points.

The two days of competition were cool and overcast, and the teams faced a wind that was blowing down the 2,000-meter course early Saturday morning, but died down during the races later that day. Sunday was calm.

The varsity eight finished fifth in the petite final and 11th overall. Hamilton was fourth in its heat with a time of 6:18.59. Army edged Hamilton out of the grand final by 3.25 seconds and Marist College finished first in the heat at 6:04.84.

The second varsity eight finished fourth in the grand final with a time of 6:31.33. The University of Rochester was first in 6:14.90.

Ricky Bottini '10 was coxswain for the varsity eight. The rest of the lineup included Gibson Hoyt '12 at stroke, Tim Belden '10 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Ben Sholl '09, Jeff Cardoni '11, Willy Cowles '09, Jonathan Wilson '09, Chris Visentin '12 and Andre Matias '11.

Scott Bixby '11 was coxswain for the second varsity eight. The rest of the lineup included Rafael De La Rosa '12 at stroke, RD Eisenhart '11 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Matt Seaman '12, Matt Poterba '12, Adam Minchew '12, Ian Thresher '12, Sam Hinks '12 and Andre Zakoworotny '11.
