Rochester Institute of Technology defeated Hamilton College in the varsity eight on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on April 14.

All races were 2,000 meters in length. Weather conditions were sunny with temperatures in the 50s. Calm winds at the start built to a slight 5-to-10 mph tailwind by the conclusion of racing.

RIT's varsity eight covered the course in a time of 6 minutes, 21.39 seconds, and Hamilton came in at 6:25.93. Jaime Leiva-Cabrera '14 was coxswain, Joe Ely '12 was the stroke and Andre Matias '12 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows: Chris Visentin '12, Rafael De La Rosa '12, Adam Minchew '12, Aaron Whiteman '13, Dylan Jackson '13 and Jack Wildman '15.

RIT captured first place in the second varsity eight with a time of 6:31.49 and Hamilton was second in 6:40.12. Monica Gutierrez '15 was coxswain, Matt Poterba '12 was the stroke and Simon Judd '13 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows. Max Geiduschek '14, Grant Meglis '14, Alex Cates '15, Jacob Wagner '15, Kyle Leahy '14 and Philip Ewing '15.

Hamilton travels to St. Lawrence University on Saturday, April 21.
