Hamilton College placed fifth out of 10 teams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference men's golf championship qualifier, which was held at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Berlin, Conn., on Oct. 2 and 3.

Hamilton will not compete in the 2011 NESCAC championships in April. The top four teams from the qualifier advance to the championships. The Continentals finished in the top four the first three years this event was held from 2007 through 2009.

Middlebury College captured first place with a team total of 585 shots and will host the 2011 championships. Williams College was runner-up at 597 and Amherst College was another stroke back in third place. Trinity College -- the host school -- grabbed the fourth and final spot with a 609. Hamilton posted a four-man total of 312 on Saturday, and was slightly better Sunday at 308 for a final team score of 620.

Greg Scott '14 enjoyed the best individual performance for the Continentals as he tied for seventh place out of 50 golfers. Scott fired a 2-over 73 on Saturday and followed with a 74 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 147. The individual medalist from Middlebury finished at even par 142.

Brad Roche '11, who has previously made the NESCAC all-conference team all three years, tied for 13th place at 151. Roche carded a 77 the first day and recorded a 74 the second day on the 6,329-yard layout. Roche and Scott were the only Hamilton players that broke 80 either day.

The Continentals host their own fall invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9 and 10. The first round is at Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, N.Y., and the second round is at Skenandoa Club in Clinton.
