Two Hamilton College men's golfers have received 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference all-conference honors based on their performances at the NESCAC championship qualifier on Oct. 3 and 4.

Phil Preiss '10 (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Brad Roche '11 (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Taft School [Conn.]) were two of the six players on the first team. Preiss is all-conference for the first time while Roche has earned all-conference honors all three years.

Preiss picked up NESCAC player of the year honors because he was the tournament's individual medalist. He fired an even-par 71 on each day for a total of 142 at 6,229-yard Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown, Mass.

Preiss ended up five shots clear of the rest of the field. The rounds of 71 are his best this fall and the 36-hole total of 142 shattered his previous collegiate record of 158. He is the first NESCAC player of the year from Hamilton since Brian Williams '04 claimed the award in 2002 and 2003.

Roche was the 2007 NESCAC rookie of the year and made first team all-conference. He was on the all-conference second team last year. Roche tied for third place at the qualifier with a 36-hole total of 148. The 71 he posted on Saturday was his best round at Hamilton.

Preiss and Roche helped the Continentals finish in second place out of 10 teams at the qualifier. The top four teams advanced to the NESCAC championships in April 2010. Williams College will host the event at Taconic Golf Club. Hamilton has qualified for the championships all three years this format has been used.
