Skidmore College held a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and went on to defeat Hamilton College 11-3 in a Liberty League game at Skidmore's Wachenheim Field on April 21.

finished with two goals and three ground balls for Hamilton (8-3 overall, 2-3 Liberty). Corbin Brown ’11 tallied four ground balls. Garrett Akie ‘12 and Max Vaickus ‘12 split time in net as Akie made seven saves in the first two quarters and Vaickus came up with five stops in the third and fourth. Vaickus also picked up four ground balls.

Skidmore (6-5, 2-2) scored the first six goals and led 6-0 with 10:41 left in the second quarter. Leanos scored Hamilton’s only goal of the first half with 7:43 remaining. Skidmore closed out the half with a goal with 1:10 left for a 7-1 lead at the break.

Both teams played tough defensively to open the third quarter. The Continentals broke through first with Leanos scoring with 7:35 remaining to make it 7-2. Skidmore answered with a man-down goal with 5:40 left. Franke Holiber ‘10 scored his ninth of the season with 14 seconds left in the third to make it 8-3. The fourth quarter was all Skidmore, as the Thoroughbreds scored three times and did not allow a goal for the final margin.

Skidmore outshot Hamilton 50-28, with a 20-8 advantage in the first quarter. The Thoroughbreds held a slight 28-25 edge in ground balls and won 13 of 17 faceoffs. 

Hamilton travels to play a non-league game at Morrisville State College on Saturday, April 24.
