  • Men's tennis competes in Northeast Regional

    Three Hamilton College men's tennis players competed in the 2012 ITA Northeast Regional Championship at Ithaca College's Glazer Arena and Wheeler Courts on Sept. 28 and 29.

    RESULTS

    Jon Franzel '13 led a strong Hamilton performance as he advanced to the third round of singles play, and the Continentals won all of their first round singles and doubles matches. Jordan Petit '13 and Matt Billet '15 also participated in the tournament.

    Franzel defeated Drew University's Hunter Lathrop 6-4, 6-4 in the first round, and took out Jordan Cruz from The College of New Jersey by the same score in the second round. He was finally ousted in the third round when he retired from the match against Stevens Institute of Technology's Benjamin Foran with an injury.

    Petit was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Rensselaer's Andre Vorbrodt in the first round. Petit was stopped by the University of Rochester's Matt Levine in the second round, 6-0, 6-4.

    Billet prevailed 6-4, 6-2 against Rochester's Ian Baranowski in the opening round. In the second round, Billet lost 6-1, 6-2 against the eventual singles champion in Skidmore College's Oliver Loutsenko.

    Franzel and Billet breezed to an 8-2 victory against Alex Khondji and Kevin McDonald from Bard College in the first round of doubles action. The duo fell 8-1 to Marc Nichols and TJ Riley from The College of New Jersey in the second round. Franzel moved into a tie for second place on the program's all-time list with his 32nd career doubles victory.
