Hamilton College's Peter Kosgei '10 (Kapsabet, Kenya/Kapsabet Boys' HS) has been selected the Liberty League Indoor Track Performer of the Year by the league's coaches for the 2008 season.
Kosgei earned All-America honors in the 800-meter run and the mile on March 15 when he finished first in both events at the NCAA Division III men's track and field championships. His time of 1:51.97 in the 800 was the best in Division III this season and it broke his own school record. He set an Ohio Northern University Sports Center record with his time of 4:11.17 in the mile.
Kosgei, who was part of six school records in individual and relay events this season, is the first men's indoor track and field All-American in Hamilton history. He was the league's outdoor rookie of the year and a co-track performer of the year in 2007.
Earlier in the indoor season, Kosgei won the 800 meters and the mile in the league championships at St. Lawrence University. He set meet and facility records in both events. Kosgei was named the Outstanding Runner of the Meet for the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships at St. Lawrence after he won the 1,000 meters and the mile. Once again, he broke meet and facility records in both events.
