Hamilton College men's basketball player Michael Schantz (Sharon, MA/Sharon) has been announced as one of ten finalists for the second annual Jostens Trophy, awarded to the men's basketball player of the year.

The award will be presented at the Salem (Va.) Rotary Club Thursday, March 18 in conjunction with the Division III men's Final Four. In addition to the trophy presentation, the Rotary Club of Salem has created the Wooldridge Scholarship Fund, with a $1,000 scholarship presented to the winner's institution in his name. The scholarship has been named in honor of Dan Wooldridge, retired commissioner of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Earlier this week, Schantz was named Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) Player of the Year and First Team All-UCAA for the second consecutive year. The senior forward finished the regular season averaging 26.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game, ranking him sixth and second in the nation, respectively. Schantz is one of only two players in the nation to be ranked in the top ten for both scoring and rebounding.

Schantz is the school's second-highest career scorer, netting 2,117 points during his four years at Hamilton. He has also totaled 1,132 rebounds, making him only the second player in Continentals history to score at least 2,000 points and grab more than 1,000 rebounds.

Schantz has helped lead his team to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year (fifth consecutive overall for Hamilton). The Continentals earned the bid as they finished the regular season as UCAA Champions with a 9-3 conference ledger (14-10 overall). The number five seed Continentals will take on the number four seed University of Rochester Yellowjackets in the East region of the Northeast section of the NCAA Tournament 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at St. John Fisher College.
