The Hamilton College Department of Music will present several music concerts in November at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts. The annual Hamilton College and Community Oratorio Society concert  will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 8 p.m.  and the Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble rounds out the month on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 9 p.m.

A Hamilton College tradition continues on Nov. 27 when the Oratorio Society presents its fall concert under the direction of guest conductor Anthony R. Reeves. Now in its 26th year, the Oratorio Society has dedicated itself to bringing together Hamilton students, faculty, staff and their families with members of the surrounding community from a 75-mile radius, to sing great choral masterworks, accompanied by some of the finest orchestral musicians and vocal soloists in the area. Tickets for this concert are $6 general admission, and $4 for seniors, students, and the Hamilton College community.

The Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble closes out the month with a free concert on Nov. 28.  Directed by "Doctuh" Mike Woods, the lively Jazz Ensemble performs a variety of tunes including time-honored standards, as well as the works of new and emerging jazz composers. "Doctuh" Mike Woods  grew up listening to Black gospel and rhythm and blues. He studied music formally at Akron University where he finished with a B.M. degree in composition. He went on to obtain two masters degrees from Indiana University and a D.M.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma. The influences of jazz and blues are often found in his chamber works. Dr. Woods begins his seventh year as the director of the Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble. He has scored over 400 works for all styles. This event is free and open to the public.

All of the November concerts will be held at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts. Unless otherwise noted, the events are free and open to the public. All seating is general admission. For more information or tickets, call the Performing Arts box office at 859-4331.
