Pierce, who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, joined the Hamilton faculty in 1991. Since that time, he has served on a number of committees, including the Committee on Academic Standing and the Planning Committee for New Student Orientation. He is currently a member of the Committee on Student Activities. Dean Coates described Professor Pierce as "an enthusiastic, principled educator who is committed to the academic development of students."
The Academic Dean works closely with students, parents and other faculty members in coordinating the advising program and maintaining high standards of academic rigor and achievement in all disciplines.
Pierce will succeed Professor of Economics Jim Bradfield who has served as the Associate Dean of Students (Academic) since July 1994. Professor Pierce will assume his new position beginning July 1.
