Pierce, who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, joined theHamilton faculty in 1991. Since that time, he has served on a number ofcommittees, including the Committee on Academic Standing and the PlanningCommittee for New Student Orientation. He is currently a member of theCommittee on Student Activities. Dean Coates described Professor Pierce as "anenthusiastic, principled educator who is committed to the academic developmentof students."
The Academic Dean works closely with students, parents and other facultymembers in coordinating the advising program and maintaining high standards ofacademic rigor and achievement in all disciplines.
Pierce will succeed Professor of Economics Jim Bradfield who has served as theAssociate Dean of Students (Academic) since July 1994. Professor Pierce willassume his new position beginning July 1.
