The Hamilton College rowing teams raced against St. Lawrence University on Saturday on Rome’s Erie Canal. The varsity 8 boats swept their races, winning the Newell and Houlihan Cups.

The Continentals and Saints competed on a 2,000-meter course facing a headwind that increased throughout the day.

On the women’s side, the nationally ranked No. 5 varsity 8 and the second varsity 8 both defeated St. Lawrence’s varsity 8.

Hamilton also won the varsity 4 race with the Continentals' first boat finishing in 9:56.59, ahead of St. Lawrence’s time of 10:33.89. Hamilton’s second boat completed the course in 11:01.99 despite suffering equipment problems with its steering.

The Continentals are in action on Saturday, April 25, racing at Cayuga Inlet against Colgate University, Marist College and host Ithaca College. The Bombers’ varsity 8 is ranked ninth.
