Asian Studies Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature Anna Oldfield has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to the Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages in Almaty.
She will be teaching American literature and film while conducting research on Kazakh women epic singers in a tradition called zhirau. Oldfield will also assist the university in assessing the differences between Kazakh and American educational cultures to improve the quality of exchange initiatives. She also hopes to learn to play the dombra.
