Anna C. Oldfield, Asian Studies Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature, has published a book review of Musharraf Ali Farooqi’s translation of Hoshruba: The Land and the Tilism in the Annual of Urdu (volume 24 - 2009). Hoshruba is a magical fantasy epic in the Urdu dastan-goi genre, an oral story telling tradition that was popular in Muslim India from the 15th-19th centuries. This first volume of the Hoshruba epic, written down in the late 19th century by a collective of story tellers, is the first translation of a planned 24 volume series.

The Annual of Urdu Studies, published at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is the only scholarly journal devoted to Urdu language literature.
