Hamilton's Robert Fish (Greenwich, NY/GreenwichCentral) has been named the Jack B. Riffle Award winner as thecollege's outstanding male senior athlete for the 1997-98 school year. Theaward was presented at a banquet honoring Hamilton's senior athletes on May7.

Fish has been a dedicated three-sport athlete for four years. An indoorand outdoor track and field standout, he also played four years of football,lettering in his senior season. Fish has proven himself to be one of thetop track and field throwers in Hamilton history, compiling 27 first-placeperformances over the last three years. A team captain in 1998, Fish wasnamed the New York State Collegiate Track Championships (NYSCTC) OutstandingField Events Performer, as well as being the NYSCTC outdoor shot put championin 1998 and the indoor champion in 1997 and 1998. In addition, Fish hasbeen named to the All-Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) andAll-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) teams from 1996-98,and has been the UCAA shot put champion three times while holding theconferences indoor record with a throw of 14.48 meters.

"Bob has become one of the best shot putters in NCAA Division III through hardwork, dedication and perseverance," head coach Brett Hull said. "Hissportsmanship, inner drive and leadership have been an inspiration to histeammates, coaches and competitors. He has helped make our track and fieldprogram a success. I am exceptionally proud of Bob's improvement andaccomplishments over the past four years."

Fish, who is the leading point scorer for the 1998 outdoor track andfield team, has been named to the All-NYSCTC and All-Eastern College AthleticConference (ECAC) in both 1997 and 1998. He has also captured threeinstitutional awards: the 1997 Doyle Prize Scholarship, the 1997-98 ColridgePrize Scholarship and the 1998 Indoor Track Coaches Award.

The Jack B. Riffle Award is presented annually to the outstanding male andfemale senior athletes at Hamilton. The award is made in honor of the late JackB. Riffle, a former trustee of the College and a devoted fan of Continentalathletics. The awards were given at a banquet featuring former Hamiltonfootball and lacrosse standout and current criminal defense lawyer, BruceCutler '70, as the keynote speaker.
