The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Robert Bernhardt, will be in concert on Friday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. in Wellin Hall of the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts at Hamilton College. Tickets for the performance are $15 for the general public, and $5 for students.

The performance will feature the internationally renown Kavafian sisters. Ani Kavafian, violinist, has performed with virtually all of America's leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra. Ida Kavafian, violist, has appeared with leading orchestras throughout North America, the Far East and Europe. The sisters have performed at the White House and have been featured on network and PBS television music specials.

A highlight of the concert will be the Kavafians' performance of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, which features a distinctive dialogue between violin and viola. The performance will also include Harbison's Remembering Gatsby and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concert is the second performance of the 1996-1997 Music at Hamilton Artist Series. Additional concerts in the series include the the Orion String Quartet, Saturday, Oct. 12; pianist Mykola Suk, Friday, Nov. 22; and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Sunday, Feb. 9. Tickets for the five-part series, including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra performance, are $40 for the general public and $10 for students.
