Carl A. Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, presented a lecture on April 15 at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va. His discussion explored the relationship between the 1953 film Shane and Homer’s Iliad.

He also interviewed professors Benjamin Haller of Virginia Wesleyan, Mark Padilla of Christopher Newport University and Arthur Eckstein of the University of Maryland, College Park, about the connections between film and the classics.

Rubino was the recipient of a 2013-14 Christian Johnson Fellowship for Teaching Enhancement to study the use of film in teaching classics.
