The Hamilton College Saxophone Ensemble performed to an enthusiastic audience at the weekly Sunday open mic night at the Tramontane on Lincoln Ave. in Utica on Nov. 17.  Selections included “Appalachian Spring/Simple Gifts,” “Eleanor Rigby” and “N’kosi Sikeleli Afrika.”

Students in the ensemble are How Iao ’16, Jeffrey Greenwald ’17, Stephanie Talaia-Murray ’16, Deanna Nappi ’15 and Haley Lynch ’17.  The group is coached by Monk Rowe, the Joe Williams Director of the Jazz Archive and lecturer in saxophone.

The ensemble is part of the Music Departments Chamber Ensemble program, coordinated by Heather Buchman, associate professor of music and director of College Orchestra & Chamber Music.  The string quartet, woodwind and brass groups will be playing in Cafe Opus on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 9 p.m.
