Facilities are an integral component of a high quality liberal arts education, but only if they match faculty members' pedagogical practices and values. In the sciences, for example, current facilities are beginning to constrain the faculty's emphasis on hands-on, inquiry-based teaching. In response, Hamilton is building a science complex, the largest construction project in the College's history. The new facility will highlight the faculty's inquiry-based approach to science education, strengthen interdisciplinary work within the sciences, and provide a welcoming space for non-majors. It also will be one of the main centers of an expanded summer program that emphasizes undergraduate research and faculty-student collaboration.
