The Senior Art Show 2009, a presentation of works from 11 graduating fine arts majors, will open at the Emerson Gallery on Friday, April 17. The exhibition includes sculpture, photography, video, printmaking, drawing and painting. An opening reception will be held April 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Emerson Gallery. There also will be a graduation reception on Saturday, May 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibition and both receptions are free and open to the public. The show will close on Sunday, May 24.

This year's exhibiting senior artists are Triona Dombroski-Fritsch, Emily Goughary, Ashley Stagner, Louisa Brown, Austin Hawkins, James Giroday, Greg Huffaker III, Travis Talmadge, Isha Ojha, Jessica Owens and Jarred Hassell.

Objects on view range from a single piece to a body of work produced over the course of a year. Ashley Stagner, will exhibit a series of intaglio prints of faeries that recapture the fantasy of the Victorian era. Also on view will be charcoal drawings and tempera painting on wood panels by Louisa Brown. The wood grain provides her a rich surface to work on, creating strong relationships between the subject matter and the preexisting surface patterns. Her work is strongly based in traditional figure drawing, but includes a more anatomical aspect as well. Visitors will be able to walk though and experience a copper sculpture by Jarred Hassell.

The Emerson Gallery is located in the Christian A. Johnson Hall, directly behind the Chapel. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For further information, including information on parking and wheelchair accessibility, please contact the Emerson Gallery at 315-859-4396 or visit www.hamilton.edu/gallery.
