George Hatke, a senior enrolled in fourth year Arabic in the Critical Languages Program, was recently awarded a one-year scholarship from the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) to study advanced levels of Colloquial Egyptian as well as Modern Standard Arabic in Egypt at the American University in Cairo. 

CASA is an institute funded jointly by the US government and private foundations such as the Mellon Foundation and is currently housed at Emory University.  The scholarship was awarded based on a six hour exam which included written, spoken, and listening and reading comprehension components, as well as overall academic record and a personal statement.

Hatke, the son of  Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hatke of Schenectady, is an anthropology major at Hamilton.
