Senior week is usually a time for relaxing and spending time with friends before graduation. Twelve Hamilton seniors chose instead to devote a morning to community service.  The students painted a house in the Johnson Park area of Utica.  The organization "Christmas in April" selects the houses of elderly or disabled Utica residents that need some refurbishing. In April, the two-story house on West Street was power washed, stripping much of the old and peeling paint. The Hamilton students are stepping in to finish the job and give the house a fresh coat of paint.

Jeff McArn, College Chaplain and service day coordinator, said, "This house needed a sponsor and these kids took it on. It's inspiring that these students are taking the time to think of others. Senior week is typically fun-filled and these students decided to do something for the community and have fun too."

Doug Kent, a Hamilton College professional painter, provided the expertise for the project. Student participants include: Nicole Austin, Amanda Cornaglia, Steve Guditus, Megan Hern, Scott Kalberer, Nat Meyer, Seth O'Bryan, Cristen Sargent, Diane Soboski, Erin Shoudy, Chris Steed, and Justin Tyler.
