Hamilton College lost the first game 2-0 and the second game 12-0 to Rensselaer in a non-conference doubleheader at Rensselaer’s Doris Robison Field on April 12.

Amy Appel ’13 pitched all six innings of Game 1 for the Continentals (2-16 overall). Appel allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three. Rensselaer (10-11) scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third. Mandy Hyne ’11 finished with one double and one single, and Appel recorded two singles. Lisa Faraci ’13, Rachel Rapoza ’10 and Liz Reid ’11 each singled.

Hamilton tried to mount a two-out rally in the top of the seventh inning. Appel singled down the left field line and Hyne followed with a single through the left side. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and Faraci was the next batter. The rally ended when Faraci hit a ground ball to the shortstop, who tagged Hyne for the final out.

Hyne pitched all four innings as Game 2 was stopped after the top of the fifth due to the eight-run mercy rule. She allowed nine earned runs on 12 hits, while striking out one batter and walking three. Kristin Schwam ‘13 had Hamilton's lone hit -- a single. Rensselaer opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Engineers added three more in the third and scored six times in the fourth.

Hamilton hosts SUNY Cobleskill for another non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 13.
