The Hamilton College Continentals wrapped up their spring break trip with a pair of non-conference losses in Clermont, Fla., on March 26.

Hamilton (3-12 overall) was shut out 9-0 by the University of Chicago and was later edged 2-1 by Calvin College. Monique St. Jarre ’15 took the loss in the first game and Kelly Leonard ’15 was the losing pitcher in the nightcap. The Continentals have dropped eight in a row.

The Continentals fell behind Chicago 3-0 in the fourth inning and the Maroons (8-0) added four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Hamilton left six runners on base, including the bases loaded in the third inning. Jenn Rougeux ’14, Ellie Kiernan ’15 and Olivia Gozdz ’16 had the hits for the Continentals. Kiernan hammered a triple.

Hamilton got on the board first in the second inning against Calvin. Sam Miller ’14 ripped a lead-off double to left field and Chelsea Merritt ‘14 drove her in with a single to right.

Calvin responded with two runs in the third inning. The Continentals nearly tied the score in the seventh. Merritt led off with a double down the right field line and Sarah Moore ’16 advanced her to third with a single to left. Both runners were left on base.

Hamilton is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 1, for a non-conference doubleheader at Morrisville State College that starts at 3:30 p.m.
