The Hamilton College Continentals lost 9-1 against the Williams College Ephs in the first game of a three-game NESCAC West Division series played in Clermont, Fla., on March 24.

Monday’s game was stopped at the end of five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. The two teams meet again at the National Training Center in Clermont for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25, that starts at 1 p.m.

Kelly Leonard ’15 took the loss for the Continentals, giving up 10 hits and nine runs in four-plus innings. Leonard struck out four. Monique St. Jarre ’15 relieved Leonard in the fifth, faced three batters and didn’t allow a hit.

The Ephs (4-1, 1-0 NESCAC West) jumped on the board with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Continentals (3-8, 0-1) answered in the bottom of the second with Leonard scoring on a single off the bat of Ellie Kiernan ’15. Leonard led off with a walk and with one out St. Jarre drew another walk. Sarah Moore ’16 lined out to left field and Kiernan followed with a two-out single through the right side, plating Leonard.

Emma Harrington earned the win for Williams. Kacey Cramer, Lindsey Precht and Priscilla Pino were all 2-for-3 on the day.
