Softball splits two games to open 2011

Hamilton College edged Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 4-3 and lost 10-6 against Franklin & Marshall College as Hamilton played its first two games of 2011 in Fort Myers, Fla., on March 15.

In the first game, Amy Appel '13 tossed a five-hitter and went 2-for-3 at the plate against MCLA (1-5 overall). Four players accounted for the Continentals' nine hits. Lisa Faraci '13 was 3-for-4 and scored two runs, Leigh Sherrow '11 went 2-for-3 and Ashley Perritt '14 chipped in two hits. The defense didn't commit an error behind Appel.

Perritt took the loss in the circle against Franklin & Marshall (6-4). Sam Miller '14, Liz Reid '11 and Mandy Hyne '11 led the offense with two hits each. Faraci doubled and scored two runs.

Hamilton plays SUNY Fredonia and Washington College (Md.) in Fort Myers in the morning on Wednesday, March 16.
