Professor Julio-César Santoyo, Catedrático de Estudios de Traducción at the Universidad de León (Spain) and former rector of that university, will be on campus on Monday, Feb. 5, to give a talk (in Spanish) titled "Traducir lo imposible: De Muñoz Seca a García Lorca."
The talk will take place in the Red Pit at 4:30 p.m.
All Spanish speakers on campus (and those who wish to come and
practice their listening skills) are invited to attend. Prof.
Santoyo has spent his life studying the joys, intricacies and
problems of the art of translation, and presents his ideas with great
style and humor. In deference to our current Spanish 381, he promises
to make ample reference to Cervantes and the Quijote, both as one of
the most translated texts ever written and as a work which itself is
presented in the guise of being a "translation" of a previous
document.
