Matt Thornton ’98 is the Director of Volunteer Management for the DC chapter of the Higher Achievement Program. Higher Achievement focuses primarily on advancing the education of underprivileged, middle school level youths through a rigorous year round, four year program in which the students meet with a mentor at least once a week. However, as those involved with Higher Achievement are quick to point out, their goals do not end with academic achievement. Volunteers take pride in “guaranteeing underserved students equal access to success in both school and life.”
At Hamilton, Thornton played on the Varsity Lacrosse team and was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity. After earning a BA in Biology/Asian Studies from Hamilton, Thornton continued his education at Lesley University where he received his Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Out of School Time and Youth Leadership Development in 2006.
