Three Hamilton students will get a close-up view of the American political process when they participate in the Republican and Democratic National Conventions this summer. Carly McWilliams '09 and Samuel Cowan '11 have been selected as two of 27 interns who will assist in preparations for the 2008 Republican National Convention. Stacey Klein '09 a communication major, will be a member of the press pool for the Democratic convention, taking place in Denver on Aug. 25-28. The Republican National Convention will be held at the Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, Minn., on Sept. 1-4. McWilliams is majoring in communication and art history at Hamilton and Cowan has not yet declared a major.

Convention internships are unpaid positions requiring interns to live in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area from June 2 through Sept. 4. Intern assignments include delegate services, preparing to welcome and house 45,000 people to Minneapolis-Saint Paul; and convention communications and operations, assisting in presenting the vision of Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain to the American people through a press corps of 15,000 journalists – second only to the Olympic Games. Interns will also participate in professional development activities, and participate in community service projects through the convention's American Neighbor Volunteer Program.
