The Union College women's basketball team (4-9) held on to defeat Hamilton (3-7, 3-5 UCAA), 74-70, this afternoon at Scott Field House.

The Dutchwomen led by five points, 38-33, at halftime, but the Continentals came back in the second half to take a six-point lead, powered behind senior forward Ashley Merriman's 16 points and five rebounds. Five Continentals were in double figures, and freshman Abby McDermott grabbed 12 rebounds, but Union was too strong down the stretch as Leah Oliveiri and Beth Perry each scored 21 points. Union's Kathleen Furlong chipped in 18 points, nailing down the victory with four free throws in the final minute.

Hamilton returns to action at home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, against St. Lawrence.
