Union College (4-8) shot 57% from the floor in the
second half and shot 17-21 for the game from the free throw line to score a
comeback victory against Hamilton College (6-5, 6-3 UCAA) this afternoon.
Hamilton shot 21% from the floor in the second half, and the loss snapped the
Continentals' six-game winning streak.
Hamilton led 46-38 at the break as Kevin Thorpe scored 12 points, all three-pointers, but sophomore Rich Gilloly (nine points) led a second-half charge by making three consecutive shots, giving Union a 63-57 lead with 10:13 left to play. The Continentals got within one, but Rob Groelz (22 points) made key free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Zena Woldeyesus and Rob TeCarr chipped in 13 each for Union, while Thorpe, junior Max Stroman, and Michael Schantz led Hamilton with 14 points apiece. Schantz also grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Continentals return to action next Tuesday, Jan. 27, against UCAA leading St. Lawrence.
