Men's Basketball (12-5)
The men's basketball team went 3-0 last including to road victories against league opponents Skidmore and Union. The Continentals kicked the week off with a 69-52 win over cross-town rival Utica College. This was the 87th meeting between these two schools dating back to the 1947-48 season. This game saw four players from Hamilton score in double-figures. Joe Finley (Brooklyn, NY) led the charge with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kris Fudge (Utica, NY) scored 12 points, grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Brendan Ferretti (Amherst, NY) scored 13 points, while Jimmy Driggs (Fairfield, CT) scored 11 points. Friday night the Continentals traveled to Saratoga Springs for a UCAA contest with Skidmore College. Hamilton shot 47.8 percent from the floor en route to an 84-64 victory. Finley led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds. Driggs scored a season-high 15 points while handing out 11 assists. Fudge added 18 points, while Jim McCarthy (Brookline, MA) added nine points, all on three-pointers. The next day Hamilton visited the Dutchmen of Union College. Hamilton's hot shooting continued as they shot 47.1 percent from the floor going on to the 82-73 win. Fudge led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. Noah Hammond (New Hartford, NY) scored 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. Finley chipped in 14 points while Driggs handed out 13 assists. Finley and Driggs' efforts last week earned them UCAA Forward and Guard of the Week honors. Finley averaged 16.6 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game last week. Driggs averaged 10.6 points per game and 10.0 assists per game in three games last week. The Continentals will host Vassar and Rensselaer this weekend at Scott Field House.

Women's Basketball (9-8)
The women's basketball team went 1-2 last week with their lone victory coming against Skidmore College. Tuesday evening Hamilton traveled to Ithaca to take on the Bombers. Despite a valiant effort on the part of the Continentals they came up on the wrong end of a 75-58 score. Jenny Russell (Pawling, NY) led Hamilton with 14 points. Jennifer Munoz (Old Bridge, NJ) added 13 points. Friday night the Continentals visited Skidmore College. The Continentals defense was tremendous holding Skidmore to 28.2 percent shooting from the floor as they defeated the Thoroughbreds 66-50. Russell led the offense again with 12 points. Brenna Chiaputti (Bolton, CT) and Holly Erick (Poland, NY) each scored 11 points. Saturday Hamilton saw themselves down 23 points at Union. However, the Continentals never quit and fought their way back into the game. With time running out in the second half the Continentals were down two with a chance to tie. Larissa Hopkins (Canastota, NY) drove into the lane. As she went up for the shot she was hit on the arm by a Union defender. The officials let it go and the ball squirted out to Russell who was standing in the corner. Her three-pointer did everything but fall through the hoop dashing Hamilton's chance of victory. Union escaped with a 51-48 victory. Karen Pogonowski (Newport, NY) led the way with 16 points, including 3-of-5 from three-point land.

Men's Hockey (9-10-1)
The men's hockey team went 2-1 last week with victories over Hobart College and UMASS-Boston. Tuesday evening Hamilton played host to the Statesmen of Hobart College. The Continentals weren't very gracious hosts as they beat the Statesmen, 8-4. Freshman Jeff Corey (Niagara Falls, Ontario) led the way with two goals and an assist. Rob Gordon (Peterborough, Ontario) tallied two goals, while Vic Cizmarik (Bratislava, Slovakia) had a goal and an assist. Matt Jones (Burke, NY) made 22 saves to earn the victory. Friday night at Sage Rink Babson came calling. Despite hard skating by the Continentals they found themselves down 3-0 after two periods. Rob Gordon's power-play goal in the third cut the lead to 3-1 but that would be it as Babson went on to the 3-1 victory. Saturday Hamilton took out Friday's loss on UMASS-Boston to the tune of a 7-2 win. This was a physical game as 26 penalties were handed out. All but two of Hamilton's goals were scored on the power play, as the Beacons couldn't stay out of the penalty box. Cizmarik and Steve Aubuchon (Gardner, MA) each tallied three points. Cizmarik had a goal and two assists, while Aubuchon had three assists. Jones made 28 saves in net for Hamilton. Friday night the Continentals will host Skidmore College in their final regular season home game. The class of 2001 will be honored that night prior to the start of the game.

Women's Hockey (8-9-0)
The women's hockey team went 1-1 last week. Saturday night Hamilton welcomed M.I.T. to Sage Rink. The Continentals put on a skating clinic as they defeated the Engineers, 6-0. On senior night the class of 2001 shined led by Lauren Spoon (East Lansing, MI) who had three assists. Meghan Stasz (Geneva, NY) tallied two goals and Kathleen Lubin (McLean, VA) had a goal and an assist. Kristen Engster (W. Hartford, CT) got in on the act with a goal. Andrea Cecchinato (Thomaston, CT) had to make only one save to earn the shut out victory. Sunday afternoon Southern Maine came calling to Sage Rink. It was a very tight, physical game. The Lady Huskies held a 2-0 lead going into the third period. Paula Dady (Wallingford, CT) cut the lead to 2-1 with less than two minutes to play on a power play goal. That's when Hamilton pulled their goalie to get the extra skater on. However, a turnover in the neutral zone led to a Southern Maine empty net goal that put the game out of reach. Cecchinato made 14 saves in net for Hamilton.

Swimming and Diving
The men and women's swimming and diving teams finished their dual meet season last Saturday with a meet at Rensselaer. The men were victorious 138-67, while the women won 124-89. The highlight for the women was Emily Pietropaolo's (Victor, NY) performance in the 400-yard individual medley. Her first place finish in a time of 4:44.97 is a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships. For the men Dan Bordoni (Fayetteville, NY) won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle events. He won the 200 in a time of 1:44.66 and the 100 in a time of 47.54. Anthony Loeffler (Littleton, CO) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.81.

Indoor Track and Field
The indoor track and field teams competed at the Class of '32 Invitational hosted by Colgate University last Saturday. In the women's 5,000-meter run Maggie Hanson (Bowdoinham, ME) and Kate Nelson (Omaha, NE) finished first and second respectively. Hanson's time of 17:03.87, a new field house record, automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Nelson's time of 17:24.71 improves her provisional qualifying time that she ran earlier this season. On the men's side Mike Thompson (Wynantsville, NY) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.91. Senior Sam Brown (Villanova, PA) was third in the 800-meters with a time of 1:59.76.

Squash

The women's squash enjoyed their finest weekend of the 2000-01 season at the Smith/Mt. Holyoke Invitational. The Continentals went 4-0 with victories over Smith, Wesleyan, Middlebury and Vassar. On Friday the Continentals defeated Smith, 9-0 and Wesleyan 8-1. Saturday Hamilton continued their winning ways with a 9-0 win over Middlebury and a 7-2 over Vassar. Helena Marrin (Keene Valley, NY) went 4-0 on the weekend playing in the eighth spot. Tracy Nichols (Marion, MA), Elizabeth Crispino (Watertown, CT) and Sarah Taylor (New Hartford, CT) also posted 4-0 records.
