Men's Basketball (13-5)

            The men's basketball team went 3-0 last week including a pair of UCAA wins over Vassar and Rensselaer.  On Tuesday evening Hamilton welcomed Middlebury to Scott Field House.  The game was close throughout and was tied with 24 seconds remaining in the second half.  Kris Fudge (Utica, NY) broke the tie when he scored, despite being fouled.  He converted the three-point play, giving Hamilton a three-point lead.  Middlebury came down and scored, making it a one-point game.  The Continentals made their free throws giving them a 70-68 lead.  Noah Hammond (New Hartford, NY) stole the inbound pass with seven seconds remaining, sealing the win for Hamilton.  On Friday night Vassar came calling.  The Continentals were in control throughout, winning 87-61.  Brendan Ferretti (Amherst, NY) led the way with 7 points on 8-13 shooting.  Fudge added 16 points, while freshman Joe Smith (Sherrill, NY) chipped in 10 points.  On Saturday --Senior Day Rensselaer visited Scott Field House.  Five players scored in double figures as the Continentals erased a two-point half time deficit to win 78-61.  Fudge led the way with 17 points.  Jimmy Driggs (Fairfield, CT) stole the show as he scored a career-high 16 points on 5-9 shooting, including four three-pointers. He also dished out eight assists.  Ferretti (15), Jim McCarthy (Brookline, MA) (12) and Finley (11) all scored in double-figures.

 

Women's Basketball (9-11)

            The women's basketball team went 0-3 last week.  On Tuesday they traveled to Middlebury, losing 82-70. Brenna Chiaputti (Bolton, CT) led Hamilton with 12 points.  Jenny Russell (Pawling, NY), while Karen Pogonowski (Newport, NY) added 11 points.  Freshman Jennifer Munoz (Old Bridge, NJ) scored seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  On Friday night Hamilton hosted Vassar College.  The Continentals kept it close in the first half, down 38-32 at the half.  However, the second half was a different story as Hamilton went 10-29 from the floor, losing 83-62.Munoz led Hamilton with 18 points on 7-8 shooting from the floor.  Russell added 11 points, including three three-point baskets.  On Saturday the Continentals took on Rensselaer.  Hamilton found itself down 16 points in the second half.  That's when the Continentals began the comeback. Hamilton cut the lead to 50-55 on a basket by Russell.  However, that's as close as Hamilton would get as Rensselaer made their free throws down the stretch. Russell led Hamilton with 19 points.  Munoz added nine points and nine rebounds.

 

Men's Hockey (10-11-1)

            The men's hockey team went 1-1 last week.  Friday night Hamilton hosted Skidmore College as the seniors took the ice for the final time.  Hamilton took it to the Thoroughbreds, winning 9-2.  Senior Vic Cizmarik (Bratislava, Slovakia) led the way with five points on a goal and four assists.  Sean Smith (Ottawa, Ontario), Kevin Audit (King of Prussia, PA) and Andy Laskowski (Skaneateles, NY) each had three points.  On Saturday night Hamilton traveled to R.I.T. to take on the top team in Division III, losing to the Tigers 8-3.  Nic Potvin (Rockland, Ontario), Matt Harrison (Toronto, Ontario) and Craig Leger (St. Catharine's, Ontario) each tallied goals for the Continentals.

 

Squash

            The men and women's squash teams were both in action on Wednesday night against St. Lawrence.  The women lost a close match 5-4, while the men were defeated 6-3.  For the women Sarah Taylor (New Hartford, CT), Liz Greene (Peterborough, NH), Helena Marrin (Keene Valley, NY) and Elizabeth Crispino (Watertown, CT) were all winners.  On the men's side Will Fuhrman (Piermont, NY), Ben Moore (Mattapoisett, MA) and Kevin Brown (Castle Rock, CO) were all winners.  On Saturday the men traveled to Rochester to take on the Yellowjackets and Northwestern University. Hamilton lost to Rochester, 8-1and defeated Northwestern, 5-4.  Against Northwestern, Brown, Moore, Fuhrman, Jeff Richards (Brooklyn, NY) and Varun Vasudeva (Trumbull, CT) were all winners.
