Jay G. Williams '54, the Walcott-Bartlett Professor of Religion, published an article titled "Christianity and Slavery" with Bible Interpretation (bibleinterp.com).
The editor offers this synopsis: "To accept the Bible as the Word of God is to accept a highly authoritarian structure for the church and society and the required 'slave-mind' which such authority implies. To discard that structure is to 'pick and choose' among the teachings of the Bible and thus have no authority at all."
