Skidmore College held off a late surge from Hamilton College to earn a 56-50 win in a Liberty League game at Skidmore's Williamson Sports Center on Feb. 4.

With the score tied 8-8, Skidmore went on a 15-0 run on five consecutive 3-pointers. Three were by Christina Gargiso and two by Megan Gaugler. The Thoroughbreds took a 33-22 lead into the break.

Skidmore (9-10 overall, 5-4 Liberty) held a 17-point lead after Christine Kemp hit a 3 with 15:18 remaining, but Hamilton battled back. The Continentals (7-9, 1-7) came within one point at 51-50 on a 3-pointer by Eliza Howe '13 with 2:08 remaining. But Skidmore tightened up on defense and hit 5 of 6 at the line in the final two minutes to prevail.

Gaugler finished with 18 points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocks to lead the Thoroughbreds. Gargiso added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Kemp finished with a game-high seven assists.

Howe led the way for Hamilton, scoring 12 of her 17 points in the second half. Madie Harlem '13 chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and five assists. Claire Hunsinger '13 dropped in eight points and Blue Sanders '13 was credited with five assists. Both teams stayed out of foul trouble as they combined to commit just 19 all night.

Hamilton travels to Union College for another league contest on Saturday, Feb. 5.
