Hamilton College took second place in the varsity eights against Colgate University and St. Lawrence University in the Bridge-to-Bridge Head Race held on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on Oct. 9.

Racing conditions were sunny with temperatures in the 60s. A quartering tailwind was blowing anywhere from 5 to 15 mph.

Hamilton's entry in the varsity eights finished the 6.6-kilometer course in 25:14.29, which was behind Colgate's time of 24:48.62. Hamilton "B" finished in fifth place behind a pair of St. Lawrence entries with a time of 25:52.13.

Hamilton "A" took third place in the varsity fours. Hamilton crossed the finish line in 27:03.52 behind Colgate's "A" and "B" times of 26:08.85 and 26:32.37, respectively. St. Lawrence "A" and "B" took fourth and fifth place, and Hamilton "B"  and "C" took sixth and seventh place with times of 30:13.19 and 31:16.57.

The novice eight finished second at 27:35.71, which was behind St. Lawrence's winning time of 26:18.07.

Kelsey Burke '13 was coxswain for the varsity eight. The rest of the boat included Rachel Johnson '13 at stroke, Fiona Hoffman-Harland '13 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Shannon Finner '14, Holly Bailey '12, Becca Straw '14, Helen Higgins '13, Allie Boyaris '12 and Leah Sorensen '14.

Catherine Florea '11 was coxswain for the varsity four "A". The rest of the boat included Bailey at stroke, Boyaris in the bow seat, Straw in 3-seat and Higgins in 2-seat.

Burke was coxswain for the varsity four "B". The rest of the boat included Johnson at stroke, Hoffman-Harland in the bow seat, Katie Peterson '12 in 3-seat and Pam Lewis '11 in 2-seat.

Erin Luers '14 was coxswain for the varsity four "C". The rest of the boat included Ellen Doernberg '13 at stroke, Virginia Slattery '12 in the bow seat, Iris Greenquist '13 in 3-seat and Eban Lewis '11 in 2-seat.

For the novice eight, Melissa Zorrilla '14 was coxswain. The rest of the boat included Keara Fenzel '14 at stroke, Alex Rudow '14 in the bow seat,  and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Finner, Elizabeth Kelly '14, Allie Hoeltzel '14, Leah Sorensen '14, Hannah Carlisle '14 and Tori Morrow '14.

Hamilton competes at the Head of the Genesee Regatta in Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday, Oct. 16.
