Hamilton College entries placed third and fifth in women's eights in the 2013 Bridge to Bridge Regatta held on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on Oct. 12.

Results

The race distance was 6.6 kilometers, and the weather conditions were sunny with a 10 to 15 mph head wind. Temperatures started out in the 50's and rose into the mid-60's by the afternoon. Colgate University and St. Lawrence University also competed in the regatta.

Hamilton's "A" entry posted a time of 28 minutes, 9.88 seconds, and the "B" entry finished in 29:01.26 in the eights race. Colgate took first place in 27:09.40 and St. Lawrence was runner-up with a time of 27:53.90.

Hamilton breezed to victory in the novice eights race with a time of 31:59.89. St. Lawrence, with a time of 33:51.76, was the only other entry in the race.

In the women's fours, Hamilton ended up in second place sandwiched between to St. Lawrence boats. St. Lawrence's "B" entry had a winning time of 31:47.12 and Hamilton's time was 33:15.03.

The coxswain for the eights "A" boat was Heather Piekarz '16. Leah Sorensen '14 was in the bow seat and Nina Byers '16 was in stroke seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows:  Meredith Garner '15, Grace Bowers '15, Lily Trapkin '17, Maddy Maher '17, Ally Kontra '15 and Keara Fenzel '14.

The coxswain for the eights "B" boat was Caroline Harrington '16. Erin Gerrity '15 was in the bow seat and Lia Parker-Belfer '16 was in stroke seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows:  Becca Straw '14, Margaret Hylas '15, Kelsie Sausville '17, Hannah Zucker '15, Mollie Major '14 and Taylor Healy '15.

The coxswain for the novice eights was Devin O'Sullivan '17. Charlotte Andrews '17 was in the bow seat and Emily Eisler '17 was in stroke seat. Seats seven through two in descending order were as follows:  Sausville, Emily Hedison '17, Olivia Surgent '17, Olivia Koster '16, Amanda Wheeler '17 and Meg Riley '17.

The coxswain for the women's fours was Sydney Cantor '16. Hylas was in the bow seat and Straw was in stroke seat. Keara Lynn '16 was in the 3-seat and Gerrity was in the 2-seat.

Hamilton rows in the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20.
