Hamilton College came in second place in the race for the Newell Cup in a regatta with St. Lawrence University on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on April 18.

The teams faced a variable 5-to-15 mile-per-hour tailwind throughout the day. Hamilton's varsity eight finished second to St. Lawrence in a competition for the Newell Cup. Hamilton finished the 2,000-meter course in 7:04.7, and St. Lawrence's time was 6:52.26.

Hamilton finished second to St. Lawrence in each of the other three races. The second varsity eight recorded a time of 7:31.11 to St. Lawrence's 7:06.56. The novice eight provided the closest race of the day. Hamilton recorded a time of 7:17.90 to finish just behind St. Lawrence's third varsity eight at 7:17.08. Hamilton's novice four posted a time of 8:40.64 to St. Lawrence's 8:14.55.

Sophie Breene '12 was coxswain for the varsity eight. The rest of the boat included Kendall Scott '10 at stroke, Jenn Anderson '10 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Allie Boyaris '12, Erika Desmond '12, Spencer Gulbronson '12, Sarah Weatherall '12, Holly Bailey '12 and Helen Quigley '10.

Clair Cassiello '11 was coxswain for the second varsity eight. The rest of the boat included Lily Ericsson '10 at stroke, Haley Peterson '11 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Bret Lineberry '11, Pam Lewis '11, Katya Adair '10, Eban Lewis '11, Eloise Walter '11 and Christine Raia '10.

Hanna Kahrmann-Zadak '12 was coxswain for the novice eight. The rest of the boat included Izzy Cannell '11 at stroke, Annika Treyball '12 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): McKayla Dunfey '12, Antonia Villa '12, Elizabeth Rumelin '12, Sarah Kelley '12, Virginia Slattery '12 and Katie Peterson '12.

Laura Boynton '12 was coxswain for the novice four. The rest of the boat included Catherine Prescott '12 at stroke, Manique Talia-Murray '12 in the bow seat, Alice Dannenberg '11 in the 3-seat and Catherine Florea '11 in the 2-seat.
