Hamilton College competed in three women's races at the 2015 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta held on the Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Results

The women finished 13th of 19 boats in the Championship 8+, 20th of 47 in the Club 8+ and 18th of 41 in the College Frosh/Novice 8+. Conditions were sunny and warm with a light headwind building throughout the day.

"I think the results were exceptional," head coach Rob Weber said. "With a very young squad, we weren't sure what to expect, but we've worked to hold them to the high standard set by last year's history-making team. By and large, they've accepted the challenge admirably and have clearly taken up the mantle."

Hamilton's varsity 8 raced in the championship event, where most of the other entrants were top crews from Division I programs. Hamilton's time was 15:29.90 and the winner from Fordham University finished in 14:34.29.

"While our placing in the event might not seem impressive, taken with results from the club 8+ event, our performance was excellent," Weber said. "We were the second-fastest Division III crew on the water, behind only NESCAC rival Trinity."

Hamilton's second varsity 8 competed in the club event and recorded a time of 16:12.41. The University of Pennsylvania's "B" entry was the winner in 14:52.29.

"We competed against the second and third boats from Division I programs and many first and second boats from other Division III programs," Weber said. "The only other Division III second varsity to beat us was Ithaca."

Hamilton's frosh/novice 8 entry posted a time of 17:58.57. The University of Connecticut's "A" boat won the event in 15:16.42.

"I've been impressed with this group and can't wait for the spring season," Weber said. "I think we'll contend for another New York state championship and will have a shot at another NCAA bid."
