The Hamilton College Continentals clipped the William Smith College Herons 5-4 in a non-conference match played indoors at William Smith's Bristol Field House on April 2.

Results

Hamilton (10-3 overall) won for the sixth time in its last seven matches. The Herons -- No. 17 in the latest Division III Northeast Regional rankings -- had their win streak end at six matches. William Smith's record dipped to 7-2.

With the match tied at 4-4, Sara Shaughnessy '14 clinched the victory for the Continentals in a third set tiebreaker. Shaughnessy prevailed by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 in a match that took three hours and 12 minutes to complete.

Shaughnessy and Liz Detwiler '15 claimed an 8-5 victory at third flight doubles, and Detwiler was a 6-4, 7-5 winner at sixth flight singles. Bella Schoning '16 improved her singles record to 11-2 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at second flight. Winnie Tang '17 was leading her third flight singles match 6-2, 2-1 when her opponent retired.

Hamilton hosts nationally ranked No. 18 Tufts University for a NESCAC match and SUNY Geneseo in non-conference play on Sunday, April 6.
