Hamilton College was swept in three sets by Amherst College and Middlebury College in New England Small College Athletic Conference matches played at Amherst's LeFrak Gymnasium on Oct. 18.

Hamilton (8-17 overall, 0-7 NESCAC) travels to SUNY Morrisville for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.

Kristen Selden '09 led the Continentals with seven kills against Amherst (16-4, 5-1). Amber O'Connor '09 and Liz Reid '11 paced the defense with 12 digs and three blocks, respectively. Kelsey Lawler '11 passed out 14 assists and Alex Singh '11 served two aces. The set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-17.

The score was tied 10-10 in the first set, but the Jeffs scored nine of the next 10 points and didn't trail again. Hamilton trailed 15-13 in the second set when Amherst took control with a 5-1 run for a 20-14 lead. The Continentals jumped out to a 6-1 lead and still held a slim 15-13 advantage in the final set. The Jeffs notched 12 of the last 14 points to clinch the match.

Jo Fier '11 pounded eight kills and Rachel Irizarry '12 added six against Middlebury (8-9, 3-3). O'Connor was credited with 21 digs. Selden blocked four attack attempts and Reid chipped in three blocks for the second time of the afternoon. The set scores were 25-18, 25-8, 25-16.
