Women's volleyball picks up tourney win

Hamilton College split its final two matches in the Victory Promotions Invitational at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., on Sept. 12.
Hamilton (2-6 overall) edged Morrisville State College in five sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-11, 17-25, 15-1) and was swept by SUNY Potsdam (25-7, 25-22, 25-18) as the Continentals finished second in the bronze pool. All three teams lost their first two matches at the tournament on Friday.
Jasmine Jolly '10 led the way against Morrisville (3-6) with 13 digs and 12 kills. Alex Singh '11 hammered 11 kills and Amanda Cohen '13 chipped in eight kills and seven service aces. Ally Martella '13 added six kills and four blocks. Cecelie Pikus '13 was credited with 23 assists and served five aces. Rachel Irizarry '12 helped the defense with 12 digs and added three aces.
Martella, who was named to the all-tournament team, had four kills, three blocks and three aces against Potsdam (3-6). Singh recorded a team-high six kills and Irizarry registered six digs. Pikus passed out nine assists.
Hamilton hosts Utica College for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
