Professor of Music Michael “Doc” Woods received an award in the 2011-12 ASCAPLUS Awards Program sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). According to ASCAP, the award program provides recognition for creative contributions to American music and a cash award “for writer members whose catalogs have prestige value for which they would not otherwise be compensated.”

Winners of the annual award are chosen by a panel of music experts. Awards are given based on a review of recent activity of writer applicants, with emphasis on recent performances.
